Great Newsome Brewery has scored a major retailer hat-trick.
The award-winning craft brewer has secured a deal with Tesco following successful and well-established business with Asda and Waitrose.
Six of its most popular premium bottled beers will be on the supermarket giant’s shelves across the Humber region from this month. On sale in stores throughout East Yorkshire and North/North East Lincolnshire, they are Sleck Dust, Frothingham Best, Pricky Back Otchan, Liquorice Lads Stout, Jem’s Stout and Cold Snap.
The farm-based brewery near Winestead, east of Hull, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and is working on a substantial expansion of brewing capacity with an extension on course to be completed in 2018. Great Newsome beers have amassed a collection of World Beer Awards, Great Taste Awards and others since its inception including a World’s Best Beer Gold Award for its popular Frothingham Best bitter.
Director Matthew Hodgson said: “We have been working to get into Tesco for some time now and we are pleased to announce that all the hard work has paid off.
“Our brand and business has shown strong growth in a highly competitive sector and we have many loyal fans who will now have more opportunities to buy. We also believe that the Tesco business will boost brand awareness and open us up to a new audience of beer lovers.”
Initially, Great Newsome’s products will be listed in 16 regional stores reflecting Tesco’s strategy of stocking artisan food and drink from local suppliers.
“It is possible that we will be nationally listed in the future,” added Matthew, “although our intention at present is to ensure that we maintain our exceptionally high standards in both quality of product and service.”
Great Newsome’s success has been attributed to its focus on easy drinking, classic styles of beer with a modern twist, brewed from barley grown on its third generation family farm.
It supplies regional pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, convenience stores, garage forecourts and farm shops as well as having national business with Wetherspoons and Punch Taverns. Business in the Italian market is also showing growth.
In addition to its own core and seasonal range of beers, Great Newsome has also brewed Brewculture, the official beer of Hull UK City of Culture 2017 – both cask and bottle.
