Language is Everything has named P.A.U.L. For Brain Recovery its 30th anniversary charity of the year.
The Hull-based interpreting and translation company chose the charity after being inspired by founder Paul Spence’s story.
Paul launched it in 2016, a few years after suffering a serious brain injury and struggling to find the specialist support he needed. P.A.U.L. For Brain Recovery has since helped many people and their families, and campaigns to raise awareness, improve services, and promote understanding.
In one of their first joint initiatives, Language is Everything’s managing director Lloyd Tidder will be fundraising alongside Paul as they attempt the National Three Peaks Challenge on May 6, which involves reaching the summit of Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike within 24 hours. And throughout 2022, staff working from Language is Everything’s Castle Street offices will take part in activities to boost the charity’s funds.
Paul said: “We were blown away by the enthusiasm from Language is Everything to support our mission and it was fantastic to see their genuine interest in making a difference. We are delighted that they have decided to make us their charity of the year.
“I have personal experience of the daily torment and the challenges that people can face. The charity helps people and their families come to terms with and manage what can often be a chronic condition with life-long consequences. We help people to avoid crisis, feel comfortable in the world again, and rebuild a meaningful life.”
Lloyd Tidder said P.A.U.L. For Brain Recovery was a clear winner in the search for the company’s charity of the year. “Paul Spence has amazed us all with his determination to achieve what most people would find impossible. It sounds like a cliché, but he is truly inspirational, and there is a clear need for the charity’s services.”
Over the last few years, Paul has taken part many sports events, including a triathlon, as part of his recovery and to raise money for the charity to meet its objectives.
